Training background

As a project leader, a role that often leads without authority, have you ever run into one of these dilemmas?

  • At an important project meeting, the more you want to impress your stakeholders, the more off the meeting goes
  • Your project requires extra support from top management, yet the key stakeholders are too busy to attend meetings or even to read your emails
  • A team member frequently delays on task delivery, but you are not comfortable giving direct feedbacks as you are not his/her line manager
  • Stakeholders may have different opinions on the project, you realize that it is too difficult to convince people with different positions and backgrounds

Course introduction

Effective Communication in Project Management is a practical training designed to help participants communicate clearly and effectively in project-based situations, especially difficult situations where leading without authority is needed. This is not a theoretical training on how effective communication works or what phycological tricks are behind it, instead, it only focuses on practical techniques which could bring visible improvements during the class. This training includes four project-based effective communication techniques:

  • Project presentation technique
  • Project escalation technique
  • Project feedback technique
  • Project stakeholder convincing technique

All above-mentioned techniques will be practiced though real-case exercises during the training.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the key elements of project-based communication
  • Master the techniques for effective project-based communication
  • Achieve visible improvement on project-based communication

Training content

  • Communication in Project Management
    In this section, we will introduce the characteristics of project-based communication and explain why it is different from other types of communication.
  • Project presentation technique
    In this section, we will introduce to the participants a catchy presentation technique – VIBE – which is especially useful in project presentation. Group exercises are included.
  • Project escalation technique
    External resource and support are crucial in project management. In this section, we will introduce a special project escalation technique – Elevator Escalation – which is especially useful when certain stakeholders are too busy to provide in time support to your project. Group exercises are included.
  • Project feedback technique
    In a healthy project environment, every member may need to intensively give and/or receive feedbacks to move the project forward. In this section, we will introduce the ground rules of feedback for givers and receivers and a technique called “Burger’s rule” which improves the effectiveness of feedback. Group exercises are included.
  • Project stakeholder convincing technique
    Stakeholders may have different opinions on your project, and it is commonly difficult to convince people with different positions and backgrounds. In this section, we will introduce series of tools that help to convince your stakeholders to make their contribution to the project.

Target audience

Project managers, entry-level to mid-level management staff who are frequently involved in projects.

Course introduction

Lean Six Sigma is a classic and powerful methodology that helps organizations improve their product quality and process efficiency. It provides a structured roadmap and useful tools for effective problem-solving. Lean Six Sigma Certification is thus one of the most popular certifications at workplace. This training includes:

  • Introduction to the basics of Lean Six Sigma
  • The fundamental logic of Six Sigma DMAIC methodology and the tools in each phase that is required at yellow belt level
  • A real case problem-solving group exercise throughout the training

After fully participation, all participants will receive a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification issued by ASQ (American Society of Quality) certified Master Black Belt.

Target audience

Professionals from all industries, especially manufacturing industry, who are interested in effective problem-solving, especially those who work with process optimization and quality improvement.

  • Introduction to Lean Six Sigma
    In this section, you will learn about the background and basics about Lean Six Sigma
  • DMAIC – Define phase
    In Define phase, you need to answer the question – what is the problem exactly? To answer this question, you will learn about how to create a Project Charter, how to create a SIPOC, and how to generate CTQ through real case group exercises.
  • DMAIC – Measure phase
    In Measure phase, you need to answer the question – how big is the problem currently? To answer this question, you will learn about output measurable identification, Operational Definition, Measurement System Analysis, Basic Statistics, Process Capability, Performance Visualization through real case group exercises.
  • DMAIC – Analyze phase
    In Analyze phase, you need to answer the question – what are the root causes of the problem? To answer this question, you will learn about the roadmap of root cause verification, how to identify potential causes with Cause-effect Diagram (Fishbone) and “5 why” and process analysis tools such as Spaghetti Diagram and Swim-lane Diagram through real case group exercises.
  • DMAIC – Improve phase
    In Improve phase, you need to answer the question – what are the best solutions of the problem? To answer this question, you will learn about how to generate potential solutions with standard Lean tools and multiple Brainstorming tools, how to select solutions and how to implement solutions through real case group exercises.
  • DMAIC – Control phase
    In Control phase, you need to answer the question – how to keep the improvement sustainable? To answer this question, you will learn about Documentation, Control Charts and Reaction Plan.
