Training background

As a project leader, a role that often leads without authority, have you ever run into one of these dilemmas?

  • Your project requires extra support from top management, yet the key stakeholders are too busy to attend meetings or even to read your emails
  • A team member frequently delays on task delivery, but you are not comfortable giving direct feedbacks as you are not his/her line manager
  • Stakeholders may have different opinions on the project, you realize that it is too difficult to convince people with different positions and backgrounds

Course introduction

Effective Communication in Project Management is a practical training designed to help participants communicate clearly and effectively in project-based situations, especially difficult situations where leading without authority is needed. This is not a theoretical training on how effective communication works or what phycological tricks are behind it, instead, it only focuses on practical techniques which could bring visible improvements during the class. This training includes four project-based effective communication techniques:

  • Project presentation technique
  • Project escalation technique
  • Project feedback technique
  • Project stakeholder convincing technique

All above-mentioned techniques will be practiced though real-case exercises during the training.

In this section, we will introduce a special project escalation technique – Elevator Escalation – which is especially useful when certain stakeholders are too busy to provide in time support to your project. Group exercises are included.
  • Project feedback technique
In a healthy project environment, every member may need to intensively give and/or receive feedbacks to move the project forward. In this section, we will introduce the ground rules of feedback for givers and receivers and a technique called “Burger’s rule” which improves the effectiveness of feedback. Group exercises are included.
  • Project stakeholder convincing technique
Stakeholders may have different opinions on your project, and it is commonly difficult to convince people with different positions and backgrounds. In this section, we will introduce series of tools that help to convince your stakeholders to make their contribution to the project.

Training Background

Effective whistleblowing systems are indispensable for good compliance management. This fact also applies in China, where regulation of the matter is increasing rapidly.

High profile cases of corporate fraud, corruption, and other forms of malfeasance have highlighted the importance of addressing the importance of installing an effective system for whistleblowers and their protection in corporate China, where this issue has gained momentum and has become a key consideration for management and compliance officers. Although a formal, standalone ‘Whistleblower Act’ has not been introduced yet in China, various other regulatory and administrative acts have been released in the past years, indirectly protecting whistleblowers and thus reinforcing the need for establishing an adequate system.

On top of that, a large number of companies falling under the scope Germany’s new Supply Chain Due Diligence Act are now obligated by law to implement a mechanism for receiving and handling complaints regarding alleged violations of the Act’s provisions on human rights and environmental protection. Things will get even more challenging once the proposed draft for a new Whistleblower Protection Act will be implemented in Germany, requiring an even larger number of companies to establish whistleblower systems covering far more than just supply chain due diligence.

Course Introduction

Whistleblowing is a critical topic for any organization. When employees or any other insiders report illegal, unethical, or damaging practices within a company, they can help to prevent harm to the public, protect other employees, and preserve the reputation and financial stability of the organization. However, whistleblowers often face significant risks, including retaliation from their employers, social stigma, and legal repercussions.

In this seminar we will explore the complex and often challenging issues surrounding whistleblowing in corporations. We will examine the legal protection available to whistleblowers, the potential costs and benefits of reporting, and the ethical considerations that employees and managers must weigh when deciding whether to speak out.

We will further draw on case studies and real examples to illustrate the challenges and opportunities of whistleblowing. By the end of the seminar, you will have a deeper understanding of the complex ethical and practical issues involved in the topic, and be better equipped to navigate these challenges in your professional context.

Training Objective

The course is designed to provide the audience with a solid understanding of the regulatory requirements and underlying legal acts when it comes to whistleblowing actions by employees. Participants will further learn and understand how to setup a system that that can be used in corporations to encourage employees to come forward anonymously and how to protect them against retaliation.

Training Background

There are only few single topics that have gained so much attention and at the same time are subject to so many misconceptions as the extremely wide concept of compliance. Often understood as following specific legally binding rules from fields such as anti-corruption and bribery, taxation, environment, employment, data and cybersecurity etc. But to achieve a certain ‘state of compliance’, the notion of compliance encompasses far more than just observing applicable laws and regulations.

It is a comprehensive and separate management system within organizations that consists of clearly defined policies, controls and procedures implemented in response to the numerous risks the organization is exposed to from the inside and the outside. Compliance is about developing and maintaining a ‘culture of compliance’ within the organization and to constantly monitor, test and adjust the existing system where necessary.

Course Introduction

“Compliance for SME: building a compliance culture for long-term success” has been designed with a view not only to introduce the concept and important underlying principles of compliance to the course participants, but above all to equip them with knowledge and tools necessary to build a true compliance culture within their respective organizations. Special focus is placed on SME because those companies often differ significantly in their capability and resources to establish separate inhouse compliance departments.

The course looks at where and how compliance is relevant in different business units and how employees at all levels play a crucial role in establishing and preserving a culture of trust and integrity. The course will present the most relevant regulatory areas and highlight common pitfalls that matter across industries.

Course Introduction

Many companies see hiring staff with disabilities as an act of charity, but in fact there is huge business value behind it. As China enters an ageing society, the cost of the existing workforce is rising rapidly and there is a huge disabled workforce of 85 million waiting to be tapped.

Governments around the world have been introducing policies to incentivise companies to hire people with disabilities, and these positive policies will continue unabated as the country moves towards a ‚common prosperity‘ society. According to ECOVIS Ryder’s SROI – Social Return on Investment – for disability inclusion, a company with 300 employees can save RMB 380,000 per year by hiring 5 employees with disabilities!

Whether hiring employees with disabilities or integrating disability inclusion into product elements, it creates a responsible social image for the company, especially for the post-00s who are about to become the main consumer force.

Disability inclusion is therefore not only a social responsibility for companies, but also a business model for them.

Course Introduction

Financial transparency seems to be a luxury to foreign businesses in China.  A lot of foreign business owners or GM stationed in China complain that they are not able to have the visualization over their business by checking the financial reports prepared by their accountants. But there is nothing they can do to change.

It is accepted by most of the foreigners that the accounting treatments should be based on the complicated tax and fapiao rules in China, which makes the Chinese accounting principles different from those of the rest of the world. As a result, the financial statements are more compliance driven rather than decision-making driven.

However, is it true? Are the Chinese accounting principles so different? Is it so difficult to have the financial reports that can visualize your business and be meaningful to you?

Training Content and Goals

  • What is financial transparency (or business visualization)? How are you evaluating your business performance when you are unable to obtain accurate financial statements – by preparing the excel worksheets by yourself?
  • Why financial transparency is so difficult to be achieved for your business in China? What are the actual reasons that cause the rampant failure of business visualization in China? Why the complexity of compliance requirements in China is not an excuse for the flawed financials? – We will explain from the perspective of tax rules, fapiao rules, and accounting principles.
  • A set of common mistakes that characterize flawed books and financial reports, and how to identify and disclose these mistakes? – We will share some real cases.
  • How to solve the problem to achieve financial transparency for your business in China, so that you can properly analyze your numbers and make informed business decisions, on the basis of correctly prepared books.  – We will share some real cases.
